My Fitness Journey Part 1

Hey guys,

I figured I would take a moment to talk about my journey and what lead me to start Toronto Strongman. I have been chasing a pump since I was a kid. I remember taking stacks of my moms books and using them as weight to perform various lifts all for the sake of looking like the strong guys on the television. Growing up I obviously watched a lot of Arnold’s movies and I knew that was how I wanted to look when I was older. Genetics are neat though aren’t they!

During high school I would gradually get more into sports and lifted every now and then. I played football for a couple years had some decent strength for skinny punk kid. It was just after Highschool when I really took my first steps into true athleticism. This was when I began my training in Muay Thai with the specific goal of traveling to Thailand. During the first months of training I learned so much about myself and what I was truly capable of. All while gaining a body that was stronger, more durable and faster than ever. I felt like a completely different person and this was the moment when I became obsessed.

After months of training and fighting in Toronto. It was finally time for me to head out into the world to go get beaten up a by people a lot smaller than me haha. What a life changing experience traveling alone is. I’ll admit I was terrified. I got off a plane in Bangkok had to get on a train later that day to head to Chiang Mai and I didnt have a clue what i was doing. Just some 19 year old kid chasing some silly dream of being like the action stars he grew up watching on TV.

Once I had arrived in Chiang Mai everything was a disaster. It was pouring rain and no one at the station spoke english whatsoever. I tried showing the drivers the guest house I had set up my stay with and not one of them had a clue where it was. Eventually someone came along who knew where I was going and I took my first tuk tuk ride and arrived at my new home. Probably took me a solid couple days to leave my room. I was having a hard time adjusting, or was simply to scared to move. I stayed in my room watching movies and sleeping until I finally got the nerve to head out.

That’s enough for this post. Thanks for taking the time to hear about my journey. I’ll keep making posts weekly that will consist of my personal journey, my fitness philosophies and my reviews of fitness related things. Stay safe during these crazy times world! I’ll have comments open on all my posts. Lets chat!
